Thailand's First Venture Capital Fund for Automotive Industry

Registered as a venture capital fund with the office of Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), the Thai Automotive VCF Co., Ltd. is the first of its kind in Thailand for the automotive industry. The Fund with a paid-up capital of 260 million baht will primarily invest in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in automotive industry in Thailand.

Thai automotive industry is one of the high-growth and promising sectors. The sector is characterized by numerous active and flourishing SME companies in need of additional capital as well as strategic and professional support. The Fund has been set up with the main aim to assist these SMEs to become successful ventures, not to exercise control of the invested companies. In essence, the Fund provides eligible SMEs with the opportunity to realize their growth objectives.


Professional Fund Manager and Advisors
Managed by highly qualified and experienced Fund Manager with advice from professional advisors, Thai Automotive VCF Co., Ltd. is able to provide valuable support to the investees. The support includes advice on business plans and/or strategies, assistance in match-makings with potential clients and/or strategic partners, and consultation on management and technology matters.

Status

The Fund had joined investment with 6 companies and 3 of them had been listed into the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The remaining, the fund had already been exited as the mutual agreement.

VNET Venture Capital Management Securities Co., Ltd. (“VNET Venture”) is a fund management company with license from the Ministry of Finance. VNET Venture is also a wholly owned subsidiary of Vnet Capital Co., Ltd. (“Vnet Capital”), a Thai private equity firm. We advise on investment strategy, portfolio diversification and risk profile, to recommend suitable financing techniques and tax planning, to identify, evaluate and make suitable investments to the Fund under the approval of the Investment Committee.

Investment and divestment of the Fund is managed through its Investment Committee comprising highly qualified executives in venture capital industry.

Qualifications of the applicants

Those applicants who meet all of the following criteria are qualified for investment screening by the Fund:

  • Those producing motor vehicle-related products; component parts used in the automotive industry and/or products used in the production of such products and parts as well as such other companies which have a reasonable nexus with the automotive industry in Thailand;

  • Those being or willing to transform themselves into professionally managed companies with good governance.

  • Those willing to go public within the next 5 years.

Priority will be given to those SMEs with technology, be it “own” or “licensed”, and those with potential for listing in any of the stock markets within five years.
